The Project
In order to progress the Queensland SuperGrid Infrastructure Blueprint (the SuperGrid), a plan to add a significant amount of new transmission infrastructure to connect renewable energy and storage across the state. The client was seeking to understand what Matters of National Environment Significance (MNES) would incur offsets in the greater Gladstone region. e2m was engaged to supply specialist ecology support.
Our Approach
e2m was engaged to undertake an analysis of the broader landscape to identify strategic opportunities for offsets. This involved extending habitat modelling for priority MNES across the region to identify parcels of land that contain large areas of potentially suitable habitat. Strategic offsets areas were prioritised based on their potential to acquit the offsets for multiple MNES for Central Queensland projects as well as SuperGrid.
Outcomes
This Strategy provided the client with a clear understanding of potential offset liabilities and early visibility for potential offset properties. It also offered insights into innovative delivery pathways enabling more informed decision-making and proactive engagement with Commonwealth regulators. Our approach helped reduce uncertainty, streamline future approvals, and build confidence in the project’s environmental strategy.
