The Project
Neoen, a global renewable energy producer, is developing the Kaban Green Power Hub in Far North Queensland—a 157 MW wind farm with approved plans for a 100 MW battery and network upgrades. The project supports Queensland’s goal of achieving 50% renewable electricity consumption by 2030, while ensuring that development aligns with environmental values, including the protection of local flora and fauna. Neoen engaged e2m to support the project across multiple stages—from initial environmental approvals through to construction and ongoing operations.
Our Approach
Outcomes
e2m delivered comprehensive baseline data to inform turbine micrositing and guide the development of targeted management plans. Through a combination of desktop analysis and field assessments, we successfully identified and assigned suitable offset areas, ensuring alignment with EPBC approval conditions. A key achievement was the successful translocation of threatened donkey orchids, demonstrating our ability to deliver sensitive flora management in line with conservation objectives. Our team coordinated strategic habitat management practices, including ecological burns, weed treatment programs, and the installation of greater glider nest boxes, resulting in a significant reduction in weed prevalence and measurable improvements in habitat quality across offset areas. Rehabilitation success was quantified using ecological indicators, and our eight-year analysis of bird and bat data informed a revised Bird and Bat Adaptive Management Plan (BBAMP), enhancing monitoring efficiency. Throughout the project, e2m maintained frequent communication with Neoen, enabling adaptive management and minimising non-compliance. Our local insight and regional expertise ensured that all assessments and actions were tailored to the unique ecological context of Far North Queensland, supporting consistent compliance and delivering confident, conservation-focused outcomes.
