The Project

e2m was engaged to map the extent of hairy-flowered love grass (Eragrostis trichophora) across a 1,400-hectare site. The client required a scalable and accurate method to detect and quantify infestations of this invasive species to inform future management strategies.

Our Approach

e2m developed a novel remote sensing methodology to map the extent of hairy-flowered love grass (Eragrostis trichophora) across the site. Using high-resolution, multi-spectral, aerial imagery captured specifically for the project, e2m developed a machine learning model to map hairy-flowered love grass infestations across a large area. A field survey was undertaken to capture data that was used to train the model and assess its accuracy.

Outcomes

e2m successfully delivered a high-resolution map of hairy-flowered love grass across the 1,400-hectare site, achieving an overall model accuracy of over 70%. This work demonstrates e2m’s ability to apply cutting-edge remote sensing and AI technologies to complex ecological challenges—delivering actionable insights that support smarter land management decisions.
