Environmental Analytics

Making Big Projects Small

From cutting-edge audio and image classification tools to tailored data analytics, our team is reshaping how ecology is done across Queensland.

Ecology has entered the world of big data. Scalable and accurate data analysis is more important now than ever. At e2m, we combine technological expertise with ecological knowledge to efficiently process vast data sets, resulting in more extensive survey efforts and more informed and reliable conclusions for clients.

Key Capabilities

Our tools and analytics provide fast, repeatable and reliable assessments of large and complex data.

We develop audio classification tools to scan years of data for species-specific calls – like those of koalas and yellow-bellied gliders, helping us to establish presence, estimate abundance and distribution and monitor population changes over time.

We develop image classification tools to rapidly process large volumes of camera trap data and identify images containing target species. This feeds into an analysis pipeline which teases out presence, abundance, distribution, and behavioural trends.

We develop custom image segmentation tools to identify key ecological regions within images, like ephemeral gilgai wetlands or biodiversity rich riparian zones within flood plains. These tools enable us to rapidly process images covering huge swathes of area and identify key habitats for target species.

We’ve developed custom object detection tools to process drone survey images and detect key species, like koala, greater glider, and over 100 species of bird. This enables us to rapidly process drone surveys containing thousands of images.

Computer vision tools are just a step in our process. We rigorously review the results of the classification and detection tools to verify accuracy. Transparency of process and QA gives our clients, and the regulators, confidence in the results.

How our Technology-Led, Insight-Driven Approach adds Values

Accurate Detection
More extensive survey effort increases confidence in presence or absence.
Detailed species analysis on a site-by-site basis.
Repeatable and objective abundance analysis allow us to monitor changes to meet compliance requirements.
Measure the impact of management interventions.

Demonstrate progress and success in conservation actions.

Extend monitoring programs to process 100,000+ camera trap images, enable permanent acoustic population tracking, and analyse drone and remote sensing data across thousands of square kilometres.
