Curtis Doughty: 20 years of Experience and a Lifelong Passion for Birds

Welcome to the Flock, Curtis!

At E2M, we’re thrilled to welcome Curtis, our new Principal Ecologist, who brings with him over 20 years of experience, a deep-rooted passion for birds, and a vision for expanding our presence in Far North Queensland.

Curtis’s journey into ecology began with a childhood fascination for birds inspired by his father an avid birder—it started with a bird checklist at age six and has since taken him across the globe. From the rainforests of Southeast Asia to the Amazon basin and Andes mountain range of South America, Curtis has combined his love for travel and wildlife into a lifelong career in environmental consulting.

Before joining E2M, Curtis led zoology teams in Victoria and worked on major infrastructure projects across Australia, including wind farms, transport corridors, and government-led conservation initiatives. His expertise spans ecology, vegetation mapping, and biodiversity assessments, with a strong focus on quality and integrity in data collection and reporting.

Now based in Cairns, Curtis is spearheading our expansion into Far North Queensland. His relocation was driven by a personal connection to the land and a desire to be closer to the landscapes he loves most such as the Daintree Rainforest, the Atherton Tablelands, and the Great Barrier Reef.

“There’s so many places to explore in Far North Queensland. It’s a place I’ve visited often for birdwatching and I’m really connected with the land and the energy up there, I am excited to now be able to call it home.”

Curtis’s alignment with E2M’s values—particularly our commitment to quality, collaboration, and putting people first—made the decision to join the team a natural one.

“It’s rare in consulting to find a company that genuinely prioritises its people. The culture here is collaborative, supportive, and values-driven. That really resonated with me.”

When he’s not leading ecological projects or mentoring teams, you’ll likely find Curtis exploring new birding hotspots, planning his next international adventure (Europe is next!), or reminiscing about his recent road trip up the East Coast—where he was greeted by cassowaries in Mission Beach.

Curtis’s arrival marks an exciting step in E2M’s growth, as he joins our Principal Ecologist Dean Jones in Far North Queensland. Curtis’s passion, experience, and vision are already making an impact—and we can’t wait to see what’s next.
