Gladstone Transmission Ecological Assessment

The Project

The Gladstone Area Priority Transmission Project is critical infrastructure development supporting Queensland’s Renewable Energy Target of 80% by 2035. The transition to increased levels of renewable energy supply will necessitate upgrades and expansions to the transmission network. Ecological considerations play a vital role in ensuring that development is both sustainable and compliant with environmental regulations.

Our Approach

E2M was engaged to conduct baseline terrestrial ecology assessments for proposed transmission lines and a substation within the project area. Our multidisciplinary team of ecologists and GIS specialists worked collaboratively to conduct detailed field surveys across proposed transmission line and substation locations. These surveys assessed and mapped vegetation communities, described habitat values, and targeted conservation-significant flora and fauna species. Leveraging advanced spatial tools and ecological techniques, we delivered high-quality data efficiently, reducing field time while enhancing accuracy.

Detailed Services

  • Comprehensive field surveys using a range of ecological techniques to assess vegetation communities and habitat values
  • Detailed flora and fauna surveys
  • Spatial mapping and analysis to support environmental planning
  • Preparation of technical reports detailing survey methods, findings, and assessment of potential impacts to Matters of National Environmental Significance (MNES) and Matters of State Environmental Significance (MSES)

Project Outcomes

  • Delivered high-quality baseline data to inform environmental approvals and planning decisions
  • Identified ecological constraints and opportunities early in the project lifecycle
  • Provided technical documentation to support MNES and MSES assessments
  • Enabled proactive risk management and alignment with Queensland’s environmental and energy transition goals
